Ferraris Trainer Darrell Vienna
Der Alkalde-Sohn Ferrari hat in Kalifornien eine neue Heimat gefunden. Er läuft seit vergangenem Sommer für das Red Barron Barn Stud und wird von Darrell Vienna trainiert.

Darrell Vienna ist ein außergewöhnlich vielseitiger Mensch. Er hat Jura und Psychologie studiert, als Rodeo-Reiter und Jurist gearbeitet. Er trainierte den zweijährig ungeschlagenen Breeders´ Cup-Sieger Gilded Time. Er schreibt Essays, Gedichte und Drehbücher. Anlaß genug, ihm ein paar Fragen zu Ferrari zu stellen.

Was ist Ferraris Haupt-Saisonziel 1999?

Darrell Vienna: Ferrari is scheduled to race here at Santa Anita on February 18 in the San Luis Obispo Hcp at 1 1/2 miles. Should all go well he will then run in the San Luis Rey on March 21 at 1 1/2 miles and then in the San Juan Capistrano at 1 3/4 miles on April 18.

Wie gut ist Ferrari im Vergleich zu Ihren anderen Pferden?

Darrell Vienna: Ferrari is a true distance horse for California racing. He is among the best horses that I have trained at this distance. Fly till Dawn was a horse I trained who won the San Luis Obispo and the San Juan Capistrano however he was a front runner. Ferrari on the other hand seems best suited to running from off the pace.

Haben europäische Pferde Vorteile gegenüber amerikanischen auf Gras?

Darrell Vienna: European-trained horses do have an advantage over US trained horses in turf racing in that for most of their lives the Europeans have trained on turf. Here we must train on the dirt tracks most every day and are only allowed to work on the turf infrequently.

Wie schätzen Sie Ferraris Chancen als Deckhengst ein?

Darrell Vienna: I suspect that Ferrari will not be an attractive stallion prospect in the U.S. His blood is unfamiliar to U.S. breeders. Additionally, U.S. breeders are attracted to horse whose best form is shorter than 1 1/4 miles.
